Plot!!!

Over winter break, Avrielle and I met up and got to work discussing the logistics of our plot beyond the simple "obsessive artist" trope. Here are the key points, withholding details that are still to be determined:

  • We have named the film "Clair" after both the main character's name and the piano piece that will be played in the opening, "Clair de Lune."
  • The opening will consist of the a two minute performance of Clair de Lune in a performance hall with dim lighting and a focus on Clair as she plays the piece.
  • While Clair plays, there will be flashbacks disrupting the slow and steady flow of the song.
  • The flashbacks will feature all the crazy things Clair did to get to this performance, such as playing at absurd times like 4 a.m. to which we will show with a clock, throwing/tearing music sheets, bleeding fingers and banging hands against the piano, and loud music that overlays and contrasts with the soft Clair de Lune piece.
  • The conclusion of our opening is especially important. The piece will finish and Clair will smile in relief before standing up. She will have a crazed look in our eyes and take a curtsy. The camera will pan to the audience, and at this point, it will be revealed that there is no audience at all, setting up a plot that all the craziness and obsession was for nothing.
