One adversity we had to overcome during our editing process was sound. It quickly became apparent that it was impossible to perfectly line up the piano audio from the flashback clips with the performance clip, and found ourselves with an awkward echo or jumps/gaps in the sound. Instead, we created a sound overlay. We created this from the performance clip and had it play throughout the opening. Then, we muted the sounds of each clip so that audiences would only hear that overlay. This helps create the effect of seamless transitions between past and present and works hand and hand with our match-cut camera work style.
